Dear Sir, why are our Muslim brothers so silent on the Nizam Mohammed controversy? They all rushed to the defence of Fazeer Mohammed last year. Even Andy Johnson had to face a placard protest! Why are the Muslims passive now?

I wish to commend Mr Warner and the Ministry of Works and Transport for the introduction of Traffic Wardens. I view this act as a step in the right direction towards alleviating the numerous traffic problems we all experience on a daily basis.

I note with appreciation that the Tourism Development Company has published advisories setting out the terms and conditions that campers must observe if they are camping on certain beaches over the long Easter weekend.

Permit me to wallow in my misery over West Indies cricket, and the sad story it has become. Long ago no World XI was complete without a handful of West Indians, be it in batting or bowling. The ICC World Cup XI has just been named and not a West Indian cricketer has made the grade. What a shame...

Barataria is a very big community, stretching from Morvant Junction to Don Miguel Road. With so many natural disasters all over the world, we are not prepared for one. We originally had a community centre that was over 40 years-old.

A friend of mine shared a quote with me the other day, “We are the generation that the world has been waiting for...” and I was bowled over by the simplicity of the idea, the boldness of the thought and promise contained in those few well strung together words.

I am noticing a frightening trend in our society that must be aired. We live in a multi-racial society that is commonly and appropriately termed a “callaloo”.

The problem has been solved! Hooray, hoorah! President Max Richards has revoked Nizam Mohammed’s appointment to the PSC! Start the fireworks! Lets have another carnival in October!  Congratulations to the all those who attacked Nizam Mohammed with full force!

It amazes me that there are so many people who still think that Nizam Mohammed was right in his attempted exposé of an ethnic balance in the upper ranks of the police force.

Responding to the photo in the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian on April 4, which showed a dead turtle washed ashore at Manzanilla, I must convey my sadness and concern over the fate that these endangered animals meet in our waters.

Last Friday at the branch of TTPost, lower Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, I witnessed an unfortunate event. At 4.26 pm, the clerk at the counter motioned to the security guard, suggesting that it was time to close the door. He immediately went and proceeded to do same.

While everyone is shooting off their mouths over the comments made by Nizam Mohammed, the ‘haters’ in our society continue to mock the law with no respect for peoples’ rights to enjoy a peaceful existence.

I find it fascinating that miracles are expected of Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs, a foreigner, in the fight against crime in Trinidad and Tobago. It would appear that from top to bottom, we continue to be in denial about the root causes of crime in our nation.

It has always been rumoured that there is a glass ceiling in the police service beyond which Indo-Trini officers cannot rise. The expectations of young Indo-Trini officers were always limited to the rank of inspector.

Just before the start of the American War of Independence, Thomas Paine wrote “sowing the seeds to stimulate our nation must be done as early as possible, as, attempting to influence people at age 50 will prove unattainable.” Is it possible that those seeds sown (in our nation) during the...
