Ken Valley (former PNM Minister of Trade and Industry) made his contribution to country and T&T has benefited from his dedication to public life. We at the DPTT (Democratic Party of T&T) express our deepest condolences to his family, his party and friends.

I fully support the Minister of Housing and the Environment, Dr Roodal Moonilal over the uprooting of farmers on State land earmarked for the construction of houses.

The West Indies cricket team has just won its second match in the limited over series against Pakistan in a very convincing manner in Guyana.

In all that has happened with the destruction of thousands of dollars in food crops, we’ve heard from the Minister of Housing, the Minister of Agriculture, the Prime Minister and even the Minister of Works and Transport.

I keep hearing sad stories from Special Reserve Police (SRP) over their “dog treatment” when it comes to pay. These hardworking cops are paid at irregular intervals and there is no compassion shown them, as they are not fully integrated into the Police Service.

Recently the former chairman of the Police Service Commission was chastised and subsequently dismissed for what was said to be a non-acceptable statement made by him. A former UWI chancellor, in all his educated wisdom, let the facts of the issue elude him.

So the West Indies cricket team is on a winning streak, having won back-to-back ODIs. What a thing!

As this Government is all set to account to the public about its achievements over the past year, it is hoped that there will be no resort to the gimmickry of the past regime that used unnecessarily expensive public relations campaigns to ramp up its performance.

During the past few weeks, a variety of issues pertinent to agricultural development have engaged the farming community, the Government and the national population at large in a dialogue not seen perhaps in a decade.

I have a serious concern about a fete called Sand Dance which will be taking place on Mission Beach this weekend. Mission Beach is a nesting area for leatherbacks. At this time of the year, turtles come to T&T’s beaches to nest.

On Monday on a  morning television programme, Independent Senator Subhas Ramkelawan told us that the quickest way to get the economy out of recession was by going downstream into plastics in the energy sector.

There are what I believe concocted conceptions about farming and the retail food industry. I wish the media would do detailed documentaries revealing the true lives of T&T’s farmers. Show how they live, the state of their homes, introduce through film farmers’ families.

As I have often stated in the past, the service commissions have done serious harm to this country, and in fact have contributed to keeping us firmly rooted in the Third World.

The following should interest our Minister of Finance, Winston Dookeran, and his cohorts as much as our Governor of the Central Bank, Ewart Williams, who are even now wallowing in despair over the economic future of our country and seeking ways to find money to meet legitimate...
