Large sums of money went missing at the Arima Regional Corporation and this should be a warning to all Borough corporations that they must be more transparent and efficient in the way they conduct business according to minister of Rural Development and Local Government Kazim Hosein.

Oil prices surged yesterday as thousands continued to riot against the government in Egypt, and unrest threatened to spread across the Middle East. Benchmark oil rose US$3.70, or 4.3 per cent, to settle at US$89.34 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced yesterday that the Common External Tariff (CET) will remain suspended on soya bean oil, personal protective equipment and refined sugar until the end of this year. The CET on frozen french fries remains in place until December 31, 2012.
