Pastor at funeral for murdered woman: Don’t fear killer but trust in God
A pastor yesterday advised the family of murdered mother of four Shelene Mahangoo-Charles not to be intimidated by death threats made by the killer who is still on the run. Pastor Farouk Mohammed tried to encourage mourners, especially the Mahangoo-Charles’ family, to trust in God as he delivered the sermon at her funeral service at her Stony Hill Avenue, Tarodale, Ste Madeleine, home. She was later cremated at the Shore of Peace, Mosquito Creek, La Romaine.
Although he heard the killer had made threats to the family, Mohammed said that did not deter him from officiating at the service. He advised the relatives to do the same. “Do not fear any man, the only person you should fear is God,” he added. Those who could not find God, he advised them to search their hearts. “Do not allow any man to instill fear in you,” he said.
Days after Mahangoo-Charles was chopped by the suspect, who is a close relative, he broke into the her home last Thursday night and shot her repeatedly. He then shot her 15-year-old daughter, Kimberly, who remains warded at the Intensive Care Unit of the San Fernando General Hospital. Investigations are continuing.
