Police officers attached to the North Eastern Task Force examine the recovered items yesterday.

Five men were arrested following the seizure of three illegal guns and more than $20,000 in marijuana during a six hour anti-crime exercise yesterday. The guns—a Ruger sub-machine gun AR-15 assault rifle and a Walter pistol—were recovered by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) led by Insp Roger Alexander, at two houses in Barataria and Morvant.  Police also seized 17 rounds of assorted ammunition and almost one kilo of marijuana at one of the homes.

The suspects, ages 23 to 57, were taken to the Morvant Police Station where they were being interrogated up to late yesterday. The guns are expected to be sent for ballistic testing at the Forensic Science Centre in St James after the men appear in the Port-of-Spain Magistrate’s Court today.
