... negativity can sabotage your goals

Your beliefs create your reality. That’s right. Ponder this for a moment. If you do not believe something is possible, you will not even try it. 

Perhaps you are offered a promotion, but your belief is: “I don’t deserve this; or I am not good enough, or my friends will be jealous, or my boyfriend will feel insecure and dump me.” With beliefs like these, you may self-sabotage your intention without realising it.

Power of the subconscious mind and subconscious programmes

Most of your beliefs are subconscious and outside of your awareness. These beliefs come from subconscious programmes buried deep inside. And these programmes run automatically at the push of a button.

If you have subconscious programmes such as fear, procrastination, stress, impossibility, feeling hopeless, sad, or other negative feelings and behaviours, these programmes can create self-sabotage and derail your goals.

Let’s look at how you can begin to shift those programmes.

Identifying positive inner resources Inner resources are vital to help you reach your goal. 

Examples of resources are: confidence, motivation, self-esteem, calm, focus, concentration, courage, joy, clarity, patience, perseverance and self love. 

Inner resources can overcome self-sabotaging subconscious programmes. 

You already have all the resources you need inside of you, right now, to reach your goal. The potential is within you. But sometimes those resources get lost, buried, or seem impossible to find.

To identify which resources you need, look back at your journal which you would have started from part one of this series.

Read over any thoughts, ideas and beliefs that seem limiting, restrictive, or have a sense of impossibility. Take note of any ideas you have about why your goal cannot happen. Then highlight the feeling beneath those thoughts, beliefs and ideas.

Example: I want a new car. 

Thought: My spouse will be angry. 

Feeling beneath the thought: Fear about your spouse being angry, or guilt, about wanting the car.

Example: I want a new car. 

Thought: I cannot afford it. 

Feeling beneath the thought: Not good enough, or failure, or depression.

Get the feelings

Review your beliefs and thoughts in your journal. Get the negative feelings beneath the thoughts about your goal. These unpleasant feelings are related to the subconscious programmes that are stopping you.

Get the behaviours

Review your thoughts and beliefs again. Identify any negative or non-productive behaviour that you commonly engage in around your goal.

For example procrastination, overwhelm, confusion, anger, being a victim, being scattered, disorganisation.

Write them down in your journal. From this list, choose the top three feelings and/or behaviours that can stop you from reaching your goal. 

Write these in your journal. My top three feelings and behaviours that are stopping me:

Now, identify the opposites of of your top three feelings or behaviours. These opposites are your resources.

Note: The opposite feeling or behaviour is your inner resource.

Now list your three inner resources. Write them in your journal. You will return to them in our next article.

What is an anchor? You may be familiar with the term “trigger.” Perhaps you recall a time somebody made a simple comment, and you immediately shifted from peace and calm to anger. You instantly changed your state.

Anchors are very powerful. They trigger “states” (feelings, or behaviours) that happen automatically.

When you are in a state of excellence (full of courage, confidence, joy, energy, motivation, calm and organised) you can do anything!

When you are in a state of fear, sadness, depression, loss, confusion, anger, nothing seems possible. You are blocked and may even create self-sabotage behaviours. But you can shift that.

An anchor uses all of the senses (seeing, hearing, feeling, taste, smell) to trigger a specific state.

Everyone has the ability to see, hear, feel, even taste and smell, in their imagination. But most people rely on only one or two of these “channels.”
