11 artists advance from MusicTT’s showcase
Last Saturday, 24 Trinbagonian singers, songwriters, and bands performed before a live audience and a panel of international music executives for a spot in MusicTT’s Artiste Portfolio Development Programme (APDP). This event took place at TZAR on Ariapita Avenue.
Of the 24 artistes to grace the stage, 11 were chosen to advance to the next phase of the APDP as the pilot cohort that will receive customised training from the Music Export Academy. This Academy will develop the cohort with the targeted knowledge and skills they need to export their unique musical products. This will include combinations of nurturing, consultations and workshops. Some of the wider sessions will also be open to other suitable music creatives.
MusicTT general manager Jeanelle Frontin, stated, “The Showcase was a largely successful event in number of ways. The support shown by the public in attendance, the massive cheers for our local artists and the quality of our music was inspiring. The performers were full of enthusiasm and passion, and the expert panel of judges were able to provide valuable feedback to all participants and identify persons who are on the cusp of export-readiness.”
The judges’ panel which consisted of five international music industry titans — Jill Pedone, Head of All Creative Licensing, Label/Publishing, Lava Music Group; Marcus Spence, Mosley Music Group; Jennifer Hyland, Senior Manager TV & Film Licensing, Universal Music Canada; Sean Mulligan, VP Creative, Entertainment One Music Publishing; and, Kosine, 1/2 of the LA based production duo Da Internz — were incredibly impressed by the talent of the performers.
From one singer-songwriter-musician in particular, Daniel Griffith, the panel requested two encores, with Jennifer Hyland posting to her social media, “This kid is about to become a global star.”
Frontin explained: “It was incredible to stand witness to what will mark the future of our music to the world. Each performer revealed the depths of their talent at the Showcase and supported each other through the entire process. This is what we want to continue to develop among our artists and stakeholders; providing opportunities for all those in the music industry. MusicTT will continue to lay the pipelines to build the infrastructure needed to ensure nothing stands in the way of our music.”
