Voters told report any violence

Monday, July 29, 2013

Voters are being urged to report any incidents of election thuggery they may encounter during today’s Chaguanas West by-election. The call came yesterday after several more reports surfaced that strange men had infiltrated the community and were terrorising supporters of parties they deemed in opposition to theirs.

Some 27,052 constituents are eligible to vote in today’s by-election, which will run from 6 am to 6 pm. Reports of election violence were raised during the often heated campaigning, but police indicated yesterday that they had not made any arrests related to any such incidents. Police said yesterday they had also beefed up patrols in the constituency and this would continue all day today.
