Inclement weather over the weekend created a heavy outfield and a very low scoring, yet exciting T20 series, between the visiting Guyanese Lawyers Cricket Team and their T&T counterparts at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) cricket ground, Omera road Arima. The two match series was shared between the two countries with T&T winning the opening fixture on Saturday, and the visitors winning the second match on Sunday. With Guyana winning the toss and taking first strike in Saturday’s game, they made 91 for 3 in their 20 overs. Their top scorer, Charles Ramson (former Guyanese national under-17 player), scored 26 runs, while Ramroop Tesnarine contributed 22.

The visiting Guyanese lawyers removed two early quick wickets when the T&T team took their turn at the crease. But, with an unbroken partnership of 82 runs between Hugh Wooding Law School student Shashi Seecharan 34 not out, and skipper Javed Khan 37 not out, this powered the Trinidad lawyers’ cricket team to victory in the 15th over. Sunday’s second T20 game was preceded by heavy early morning showers, creating a heavy outfield, making scoring even more difficult. With the Guyanese cricketers determined to go home with their pride restored, this game turned out to be the more competitive one, with them gaining victory in the last over.

The T&T lawyers won the toss and decided to bat first, but the visitors had other ideas and came out more focused, and routed their T&T legal counterparts for a meagre 71 in 19.4 overs. With Ebrahim Ghuran, top scoring with 24 runs , and Guyanese off-spinner Dennis Paul bowled an economic spell of 4 for 15 in 4 overs for the visitors. The Guyanese lawyers’ team batted through some tight economical bowling by the T&T lawyers while losing wickets at intervals, but in the end brought home an exciting victory with one wicket remaining and five balls to spare. The bowling honours were shared by Guy Hannays and Ebrahim Ghuran with three wickets each. The Players of the 2-match T20 Series were Charles Ramson (Guyana) and Shashi Seecharan (T&T).
