Marloe Rodman of Jamaica won the 1 km hilltime trial in a time of one hour and 52.30 seconds. The cyclist not only clocked a record time to break his own personal best but set a new time in that particular race and venue at San Fernando Hill on Thursday. T&T’s Emile Abraham finished second in 1.58.11 while Maarten De Jonge finished third in 1.58.25. The race was an initiate of the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Unity Race Organising Committee.  Rodman expressed that he was ecstatic that he won saying; “This year I came back for it and set the fastest time.”  He said it was a challenge to compete in the wet conditions but overcame it. He stated that he likes competing in Trinidad and is happy that the nation is celebrating its golden jubilee.  “It’s always good coming here; I have a lot of family and friends over here.”

The Jamaican shared that he is known to international competition. He said, “I have been racing in America and England so internationally I have been all over.” Rodman’s next step is competing in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. The Tour of T&T series is being called the ‘Tour De France of the Caribbean” since it has attracted over 75 cyclists with over 45 of the competitors being foreigners.  Anthony Commissiong, organiser of the event, labels it as “the biggest cycling tournament in Caribbean.”  The tour continues today with stage four from Laurie Rogers Stage 85km Road Race in Chaguaramas, to Port of Spain then to Toco, 1 pm.
