T&T's women's coach Jamaal Shabazz will be hoping to get his attacking strategy and approach right when his troops face Suriname in the feature match of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women's Challenge tournament from 6:30pm this evening at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain Couva.

The tournament, being used as preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month, will begin with an opening encounter between Guyana and Grenada at 4pm at the same venue. Shabazz whose team will comprise a blend of under-17s, 20s, seniors and some veterans, have been fairly steady in defence but shaky in attack.

"They have to do a lot more work on how to get behind the defence. I am comfortable with how they are winning the ball back, and being compact, but now the transition to penetration, to get behind the opponents more , is causing some concerns. This is what we are working on and hopefully we will get it right today," Shabazz explained.

In spite of the inclusion of players from different generations, Shabazz said they have been fitting in nicely with each other.

The T&T women's last encounters came against their Panamanian counterparts in two international friendlies at the Couva venue, that the T&T first drew 1-1 before going down 1-2 in their second match.

Yesterday, following a training session at the Ato Boldon Stadium, the veteran coach said he believes his troops can get a good result from the contest.

"They understand the importance of the tournament to the overall women's programme. T&T and Jamaica are no longer the powerhouses we used to be in women's football in the Caribbean. In the last 10 years we have not really done any development work. The players we are depending on now are the same players we depended on 15 years ago, so somebody has not done his homework," Shabazz explained.

According to coach he is excited about the game and believes it will be the ideal dress rehearsal ahead of the world cup qualifiers.
