In 2017 at the Senior Division at the National Outdoor Championships, Shemariah Ali broke a Double 70-metre Target archery record which had stood for a decade. The previous record of 542 was demolished when Ali recorded a score of 573. The remarkable feat showcases that Ali’s brilliance is not limited to age group competition, her tremendous abilities are now enveloping the archery fraternity.

Ali continued to cement her standing atop the women’s recurve bow competitions with another year of domestic domination and record- breaking performances. Her feats continued at the Youth Outdoor Championships where Ali established a new national record of 599 points for the Double 60 meters round.

The record books were recalibrated when Ali’s shattered the 36 arrow-half of 300 points. Her score is on the cusp of the minimum score required for consideration to be selected for the Youth Olympic Games in October in Argentina.

Golfer Avey now playing with the big boys

Young, talented and driven to improve his skills Avey lined-up against the best youth golfers in the Caribbean at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships as a member of both the T&T junior and senior team squads in 2017.

Avey has swung the irons with adult players for quite a while, but the lessons learned and rubbing shoulders with the best in the region will be put to the test as he has aged out the juniors and looks towards his first year as a bona fide senior. Champion of the 2017 Caribbean Junior Open, Avey’s strongest attributes reside in his short game; his chipping and putting skills. Chipping sets the stage for the final shot, Avey’s feel, wrist control, and execution get him into a few feet of the hole then his putter does the rest. Avey hopes his chipping skills can help him chisel a permanent seat at the senior table of domestic, regional and international golf.
