FASHION GOES COUTURE IN NEW YORK PUNK

The 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art's yearly Costume Institute exhibit was themed “Punk: Chaos to Couture". It was a night of actresses, actors, musicians and fashionistas lined up to strut their stuff at this world renowned fashion Gala in New York City. The Divas of the night brought it to the table with confidence, edge and controversy. Madonna’s grey tartan short pantsuit with metal pieces and hot pink shoes was reminiscent of a mesh mass of 80’s and 90’s retro chic. This proved that at any age you can be hip and cool, embrace who you are and make them talk about it. Her vibrant Lower Eastside red lip complimented the fishnet feel of bad girl punker and strong bang haircut.

Beyoncé fashionably arrived in a gorgeous Givenchy black and gold design that exemplified DIVA. Her makeup was warm and shimmering as she did. Her soft, smoky, heavily lined eyes were just enough and did not compete with her couture ensemble. Her tigress “get out of bed” hair was a perfect look for the pop star (and of course a show stopper). Kim Kardashian embraced a floral pastel pattern that literally wrapped her body providing the illusion of no pregnancy baby bump. Her pulled back hair in a bun and Bordeaux lips were where you found the deeper colours pop. Kayne West played it safe with a tuxedo inspired suit and crisp white shirt with super slick shoes.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked like a mix of designers and pop icons in one meaning Lady Gaga meets Alexander McQueen meets Versace and why not? It was Punk Couture night. Her makeup glowed a mile away and extreme definition on her hollow cheek bones with smoldering navy blue black eyes were just as heavy to create an overall palette of extreme fashion. Anne Hathaway surprised everyone with her ‘blonde ambition’ hair colour which suited her long black Glama evening gown with ostrich feather sleeves and sequins throughout. Her makeup was soft but had an element of strength to it.

Miley Cyrus wowed everyone with her long fishnet glove fitting gown with crystal sequins underneath, glimmering as she walked. What I loved even more was her punked out black-blonde hair and dramatic red lips and super thick mascara on her lashes. She is all grown up and loving life. JLO was animalist in her grey and black printed long evening dress and upswept hair, paired with an always flawless makeup palette. (Jenny from the block, you rocked!) The best part of the Met Ball is that it’s one of a kind. Everyone can express who they are or be who they want to be. It is the hardest ticket to land in town besides the Academy Awards; but it shows fashion, couture, beauty, individuality and trends. At Vibe Beauty we loved the celebrity makeup colour and overall fashion. They are iconic! Whether you like their fashion statement or not, the goal was not to please, but to inspire; I say “mission accomplished!”
